Tips - Ideas - Hints - Advice

You may be moving for the first time or moving yourself, or your last move did not quite go as planned.

This is why we have set up a 'Tips' page for you. Over the years of helping people move, we have found that there are lots of ways to make things easier. This page has been set up to share these ideas with you.

Preparing

  • Call friends and family to make removal an event not a task.
  • Sort through your belongings a few weeks before removal to donate unwanted items to charity - the Sue Ryder Foundation in Cheltenham can be contacted on 01242 252 513, or visit their web site for more information.
  • Create a portable kit consisiting of marker pens, plasters, tea kit, phone numbers, tools, labels, keys, toileteries, a good take away telephone number and other essentials not to be packed - don't forget to mark the kit 'not to be packed!'
  • Defrost your refrigerator in time for moving day.
  • Make sure you have a generous supply of packaging tape, scissors, markers and labels.
  • People have a tendency to keep outdated paperwork for a very long time. Realise that paper is very heavy. Do yourself a favour and get rid of any outdated documents prior to moving.

Packing and labeling

  • Always pack boxes level, and seal them so that they can be stacked, and mark which room they are to go in.
  • Stack plates on their sides, not flat, and try to layer china with the odd tea towel or other padding.
  • Keep boxes to a sensible weight.
  • Try not to leave hollow spaces in boxes - use pillows or cushions where necessary.
  • Loose clothes, jackets and bedding etc. can go into binliners.
  • Garden tools and other loose items can be taped together into bundles.
  • Some items can stay in chests of drawers and bedside cabinets provided they are not fragile.
  • Don't water plants before the removal - should they tip over they will make a mess.
  • Don't pack any flammables.

I can't praise them enough, they werebrilliant! I'll certainly be throwing your name in the direction of anyone I know who is planning to move. It was a fun day and a hassle free move.".

"I was delighted with the service offered. Although the job was clearly more demanding than they had been expecting they piled in without any moans or attitude. They were polite and friendly at all times. Altogether it was a very friendly experience having a highly recommended service actually live up to the recommendation.
